It’s amazing how much energy working at camp can give you AND take away from you. Everyday, I go, go, go and give the campers my all. At about 5pm I hit the wall. Unfortunately, that’s the only time I am able to get office work accomplished. Grab me the No-Doze please.
Having said that (and knowing you all understand what I am talking about) I apologize for not keeping up with my posts. I also apologize that I have not been able to complete my 100 themes posts. All my creative juices are going into camp and I have little reserves for coming up with theme ideas. So if you can help me out that would be great! Take a look at the themes I don’t have ideas for and either email me or place them in the comments below. Honestly, my guess is that you all are drained of creativity as well, being half way through the summer season.
HIGHLIGHTS OF CAMP
I’d like to take a moment and let you know what the highlights of my camp are this summer.
Camper’s Favorite Activities: The 5-7 year olds are gaga over building fairy houses and gnome homes. I show them pictures of the books I recommended to you in a previous post and let them go to work using natural elements in the forest. Then I come back the next day and sprinkle the homes with fairy dust (glitter). When the campers see the fairy dust they get SOOOOO Excited! It’s very cool. Fishing and kayaking are also very popular.
Camper’s Favorite Songs: An Austrian, Roosta Shaw and Bazooka Bubblegum. By the way have you seen this Bazooka Bubblegum video?
Camper’s Favorite Games: Pow, Sharks and Minnows and All my Neighbors
Camper’s Favorite Theme so far: Survivor
Camper’s Favorite Skits: Director’s Skit and Tex
Camper’s Favorite Claps: Arnold Schwarzenegger clap, Golf clap and Fireworks clap.
Reward System: We started a bead program this year. I was blown away by the positive response by the campers. They love earning beads. We have 34 different types of beads from common to super-ultra rare. I will definitely continue to do this program, as well as build on it.
HOW ABOUT YOU?
What’s been working well with your camp this summer? What are your camper’s favorite activities, songs, games etc?

This is in response to your reward system…our reward system is called Good Deed Bucks (formerly Mitzvah Bucks.) Everyday counselors put good deed bucks into the bin for kids who went above and beyond to help a counselor or camper. At the end of the week we pick four campers to pie a counselor in the face! The kids love it and we’ve done it for the past 7 years.
Peace, Love, Camp
Sarah
Sarah, we have done camp bucks in the past as well but not for the opportunity to throw pies at staff. I love it! Thanks for the comment.
