Theme of the Day – Rainforest Adventure

Theme-of-the-Day is a post where we ask readers to leave their summer camp ideas, using the day’s theme, in the comments section. What ideas and suggestions do you have¬† for the Theme of the Day? What game, craft, apparel choice, theme meal, evening activity, special event, song, skit, or anything else would you do at camp if your theme was…

Rainforest Adventures

Below are five ideas. Leave your suggestions in the comments area below.

  1. Decorate the dining hall or other gathering area like a rainforest. Think Rainforest Cafe.
  2. Play forest sounds (crickets, frogs, birds, drums, etc.) around camp or in the dining hall.
  3. There is a ton of neat trivia that can be asked to campers during meals, announcements, cabin time, “Stump the Counselor” time, etc.
  4. Play games like Predetaor and Prey and discuss the relationship of animals in the rainforest. Any game that includes snakes, monkeys or other rainforest animals would be good.
  5. Hide animal skins in the woods and go for a hike. Ask the campers to try and spot the animals. Discuss the importance of camoflauge and adaptation of rainforest animals. Have an animal handler bring some reptiles or other rainforest animals to camp.

Remember those books were you get to choose your outcome (if you want to open the door turn to page 15, if you do not, turn to page 18, etc…) well you can have a big game like that with obstacles that the kids have to open envelopes on what they choose to do to make it safely though the rain forest. For example: At the entrance of the rain forest they can choose to go right or left and when they choose that they get to move to the next obstacle (tire jumps), once they are done with that they can choose to continue deeper in the rain forest by going left or they can take the path most traveled and go right. Etc.

Shelby, I used to LOVE those books – Choose Your Own Adventure. I actually still have five of them. I think doing something like that would be crazy fun. You would have to set-up a lot of alternate routes. You could offer other choices as well like “Do you want to take a flashlight with you or a first aid kit?” “You get bit by a snake. Do you (A) or (B)?”
