Theme of the Day – Rock Stars

Theme-of-the-Day is a daily post where we ask readers to leave their summer camp ideas, using the day’s theme, in the comments section. What ideas and suggestions do you have  for the Theme of the Day? What game, craft, apparel choice, theme meal, evening activity, special event, song, skit, or anything else would you do at camp if your theme was…

Rock Stars

Below are five ideas. Leave your suggestions in the comments area below.

  1. Have campers put together bands for karaoke or the Rock band video game.
  2. Dress your counselor up like a rock star.
  3. Hold a clothes changing relay. One runner of each team runs to the other side of the field and puts on one piece of the rock star outfit and runs back. That piece of clothing is then given to the next runner to wear and then he/she runs to get another piece of clothing. The second runner should return wearing two items. Then the third runner goes, and so on. The team that gets the entire outfit first wins.
  4. Face paint the little rock stars.
  5. Hold a concert with a real band, camper-friendly, of course.

    1. Have a game of musical Chairs. you can use BIG 12″ gold stars as “Hollywood” stars and use those as the place markers for Musical chairs.

    2. an air-guitar competition with blow up guitars

    3. do a lip sync

I am needing some fun filed trip ideas for a rock star week. I/m holding a camp in Tulsa OK. I have looked at some recording studios but I think that is not going to work due to pricing and space at the studio. we have about 30-40 kids each week for our summer day camp.

I used to run an after school voice acting program. I too wanted to use a professional studio. The first one I contacted put me in touch with the owner or manager. I told him what I was doing and that I had really limited funds. He totally worked with me onthe cost by putting an intern on the mixing board and having us come at an off time. It was awesome!

How about going to see a local band rehearse? The kids can ask them questions and watch them play.
Are there agents in Tulsa? Or band managers taht you can visit?
How about having each kid bring $10 and then visit a thrift shop where the kids get to create their rocker persona by trying on and buying vintage clothing or creatively piecing together a certain look?
Visit a music store, a music museum or a guitar crafters workshop.
Is there a park where they can do some street performing?
Are any bands coming to town that week that you can possibly arrange with the band manager for a private tour of their bus or rehearsal area? Maybe some pre-pre-show backstage passes?
Is there an outdoor amphitheater you can play at?

I hope some of these thoughts help.
