Theme-of-the-Day is a daily post where we ask readers to leave their summer camp ideas, using the day’s theme, in the comments section. What ideas and suggestions do you have for the Theme of the Day? What game, craft, apparel choice, theme meal, evening activity, special event, song, skit, or anything else would you do at camp if your theme was…
The 60s
Below are my five groovy suggestions. Share the love and leave your ideas in the comments area below.
- Tie dye is required. Use t-shirts or handkerchiefs.
- Create peace signs using pipe cleaners.
- Have campers or staff impersonate Elvis or The Beatles. Go Go dancers are optional.
- Play some Beach Blanket Bingo.
- Create signs that say “Groovy”, “Peace”, “Love”, etc. and place them around camp or in the dining hall.

Love this!
How about a 1960′s protest themed meal?? Ask campers to prepare plackards expressing silly issues they want to protest about e.g. ‘More chocolate milk’ and bring them to dinner. Everyone should dress as hippies, and the diing hall should be appropriately decorated. Throughout the meal ask campers ‘what are you protesting?’ and they can respond by waving their plackards and chanting catchy protests!
It will get noisy, but will be great fun!!
