A couple of weeks ago I received an email from a girl who lives in Australia. She wants to work at a camp in America next year and wanted to know which company she should apply to.
It was years ago when I hired staff from both Camp America and CCUSA. I know things have changed since then.
It looks as though most of you use either Camp America, CCUSA or Camp Leaders. As camp directors we choose the company for different reasons than a prospective staff member would.
Which company has great support, pay, hiring fairs, etc? I looked at some message boards and I saw that there were people that had good experiences and bad experiences with all three companies. For s a young adult who is looking to work in another country this could be a very hard decision. Thoughts of being stranded in a foreign country or working at a horrible camp are legitimate worries.
Having been on this side of things and knowing what you know, what company would you go through if you were an international student who was looking to work at an American camp? Please leave your thought below. I know the Australian girl will be reading. Thanks.

I use CCUSA, CampAmerica, and International Camp Counselor Program (ICCP). If I were going to travel as a participant knowing what I know, I would travel with ICCP. Typically, their participants go home with more pocket money. Otherwise, the three would be neck and neck for me. They treat their participants fantastic in my experience. I have seen all three agencies patiently answer every little question, support the participants if they got sick or needed help with travel.
Part of the reason I as a director use all three is because each one pulls a higher number of participants from differing parts of the globe. So that may affect her decision.
Thanks, Heather, for the info. I agree that you really can’t go wrong with any of the big companies. I know there is another company that plans on challenging the way CCUSA and Camp America do business and it looks to be pretty exciting. I’ll reveal more when they are fully ready to go.
